Press about 'Sistere':
Beautifully atmospheric, heavy yet elegantly smooth and musically genius.
I’m simply blown away by what IZAH has done with Sistere…
Echoes and Dust
Astonishingly, this is the band’s debut, and it manages to transcend genres to offer a segueway for fans of hardcore, post-rock, doom and black metal alike… it is quite apparent that something special has taken place and the world that remains seems inferior and bland.
Zero Tolerance Magazine
This thing moves, it goes to a few different places, and it encourages you to follow. And you WILL follow. So maybe it’s not sludge after all, but whatever it is instead? It’s really fucking good.
This might be one the best debut albums of all times!
This album punishes and caresses in equal measure... Once again, Nordvis have released an absolute blinder of an album, and IZAH have conjured up something darkly magical, that continues to improve with each subsequent listen.
The Lair of Filth
Dutch maulers IZAH are dropping their massive debut record ‘Sistere’ onto the world, and it’s one hell of a journey to take. It’s emotional, dark, sometimes uplifting, and always effective… IZAH may have taken their time finally putting their first big stake in the ground, but they knew what they were doing and clearly were making sure everything was ready for their formal introduction into the world. ‘Sistere’ is a passionate, raucous experience, and the record that will get inside of you and completely change your demeanor. This is a smothering debut that definitely should put IZAH on the map in permanent ink.
Meat Mead Metal
Imagine that The Ocean and Rosetta had been asked to collaborate on Altar of Plagues‘ Mammal and you’ll begin to understand the scope of this album.
Angry Metal Guy
‘Sistere’ represents a band not just willing to push certain boundaries, but to go beyond them with resounding prowess and ability.
Sistere is nothing short of a landmark in the history of post-metal and doom. It stands at a unique juncture between more dreamy scapes, echoing Rosetta, and heavier, ISIS influenced passages. It lastly throws in heavy riffs in the form of earlier The Ocean. But all these comparisons really don’t do this album enough justice. You need to hear it for yourself, all of its glorious textures. Please.
Heavy Blog Is Heavy
In the middle of the day IZAH delivered one of the best performances of Roadburn 2015. For those who were not there, I can only tell them to get their hands on IZAH’s debut album ‘Sistere’ as soon as possible, for the mix of atmospheric sludge, post-hardcore, post-rock and doom is breathtakingly good and of international stature.
Sistere doesn't sound like a debut. The inspiration is audible, a little Isis, a little Neurosis and a little Converge, but because of the sharp ideas within the songs this has become a monster of a record - in the positive sense.
IZAH audaciously pushes its talent to its limits. The length of this piece is an ordeal of the most perilous but the Dutch team does it with ease, multiplying ideas to keep the listener spellbound, using various sound effects and spoken word to achieve a disturbing or even oppressive effect, broadening its musical spectrum while knowing perfectly how to play on the sensibilities, maintaining tension before the crisis breaks out, releasing it when necessary.
Inner War Reviews
The essence of sorrow and melancholy at its deadliest.
Powerful and edgy, but at the same time capable of raising ethereal melodic cathedrals; projected into the future with peaks of experimentation, but without losing anything of the post-metal groove drawn by the great fathers, 'Sistere' is an album that stuns and moves but, above all, unleashes storms of emotion.
Right from the start these six gentlemen show themselves to be the great hope for atmospheric, intense, emotionally laden extreme metal... Fans of bands like The Ocean, Katatonia, AmenRa or Cult of Luna should urgently check this out!
